The project and its goals
“Bullone.EU” represents an exciting new venture for social journalism in Europe. An initiative born from the collaboration between Bullone and the Swedish organisation Traces&Dreams, this project aims to connect young Italians and Swedes, promoting inclusion and diversity through their stories. Today, we tell you about the importance of this exchange between Italy and Sweden and how it has helped to strengthen ties between the participants, enriching social journalism.
Connecting two worlds
The exchange between Italy and Sweden was the beating heart of Bullone.EU. Young Italians and Swedes met through a series of webinars and visits to each other’s countries, creating a true cultural and professional bridge. This dialogue between two different realities made it possible to explore common topics such as mental health, the transition from adolescence to adulthood for those living with chronic diseases, and the challenges of social inclusion.
The Italian B.Livers had the opportunity to immerse themselves in Swedish culture and vice versa, exploring the different social and health realities of the two countries. These encounters allowed them to see first-hand the challenges and solutions adopted in different contexts, enriching the knowledge and skills of each participant.
Webinars and InVisibile Festival
Through a series of training sessions, participants improved their digital and social journalism skills. The journey began with a webinar at InVisibile Festival in October 2023 and followed by three more online meetings in 2024. These events offered a unique opportunity to discuss and deepen socially relevant topics.
Participants were able to share their experiences, engage with experts in the field and learn new storytelling techniques. The online presence broke down geographical barriers, allowing active and engaging participation by all the young people involved.
The Speeches by Gentiloni, Fontana and Grasso
The event was remotely attended by, among others, European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs Paolo Gentiloni, Corriere della Sera director Luciano Fontana, and Press and Communication Advisor to the Presidency of the Republic Giovanni Grasso. “Fragility and uncertainty are the key words of the times we are living through,” Gentiloni said, “occasions such as the launch of the Bullone.eu newspaper are perhaps an antidote to this situation”. An invitation ‘to rediscover the values of dialogue, solidarity and community, which in the end is also the meaning of Europe, which must not only be an enclosure of rules made good,’ he added, ‘but the place of a new humanism’.
The importance for B.Livers
For the B.Livers, young people who live or have lived with serious illnesses, Bullone.EU project has been a transformative experience. This exchange offered them a unique opportunity for expression, allowing them to tell their stories and feel part of a wider community. The chance to engage with peers from another country enriched their point of view and offered new perspectives to face their daily challenges.
What’s on?
Bullone.EU is more than just a social journalism project; it is a life experience that brought together young Italians and Swedes, creating deep and lasting bonds. Through the exchange of ideas, experiences and cultures, the participants were able to grow and develop both personally and professionally. This project demonstrates how social journalism can be a powerful tool for inclusion and change, capable of giving a voice to those who are often not heard.
